The Canal Sauldre was designed to improve agriculture in Sologne. It was intended to bring the marl (natural mixture of limestone, sand and clay) abundant on the borders of the "Pays-Fort", to amend the acid soil of a region thus infertile. It should also be used for irrigating fields with water loaded with marl, and drainage of the Sologne, very wet in many places.
